Alternative Learning Trust Response to the Port Protests

As a family of schools, Alternative Learning Trust is committed to promoting a sense of belonging for all our students, families, and staff. We stand alongside all members of our communities in condemning any protest or action that seeks to exclude, intimidate, persecute, or make people feel unsafe or unwelcome.

While the right to peaceful protest is an important democratic freedom, there is no place for behaviour that intimidates, threatens, or targets members of our community or those who work, volunteer, and serve in the public services that help keep us safe. From police officers and emergency responders to RNLI volunteers who selflessly risk their lives to protect people at sea, everyone deserves to be treated with respect. Everyone has the right to feel safe, valued, and that they belong.

The role of our staff is to remain curious, foster understanding, and support young people and families in navigating a complex and often challenging world. This includes challenging views that are harmful, discriminatory, or that undermine our commitment to safety and belonging for all.
